Clean up

The conversion replaces the text in the box, so use Undo to step back. Nothing is uploaded: the text stays in your browser. Title Case keeps small English words such as "of" and "the" in lower case. Code styles split words at spaces, punctuation and capital letters, line by line.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text into the box.
  2. Click a button such as UPPER CASE, Title Case or snake_case to convert the whole text.
  3. Use Undo if you want to step back, or try another style on the same text.
  4. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.

What it does

  • Fourteen conversions

UPPER CASE, lower case, Title Case, Sentence case, iNVERSE cASE, aLtErNaTiNg cAsE, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE, dot.case, plus two clean-up buttons.

  • Made for writing and for code

Letter-case buttons suit headlines and sentences, while the code styles split words at spaces, punctuation and capital letters, line by line, so a list of names converts in one go.

  • Undo and live counts

Every conversion can be undone, and characters, words and lines are counted while you type.

  • Copy or download

Copy the converted text with one click or save it as a plain text file.

  • Remembers your text

The text is kept in this browser, so a refresh does not lose it. Clear removes it.

Good to know

Case matters more often than it seems: a headline in Title Case reads differently from a sentence, an email subject in capitals looks like shouting, and a variable name in the wrong style breaks a naming rule. This tool fixes all of these without retyping. Title Case keeps small English words such as "of", "the" and "and" in lower case unless they come first or last, and Sentence case capitalizes the first letter of each sentence and the pronoun "I".

Developers can turn a phrase like "user account name" into userAccountName, UserAccountName, user_account_name, user-account-name or USER_ACCOUNT_NAME. Existing camelCase is split into words first, so getHTTPResponse becomes get_http_response. Korean, Japanese and Chinese characters have no upper or lower case, so only Latin letters change; they are left untouched in the same text.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between Title Case and Sentence case?

Title Case capitalizes the main words of a heading, for example "The Art of War". Sentence case capitalizes only the first word of each sentence and proper uses of "I", like a normal sentence.

Can I convert a list of variable names at once?

Yes. Put one name or phrase on each line. The code styles such as camelCase and snake_case work on every line separately and keep the line breaks.

Does it work with accented letters?

Yes. Letters such as é, ü, ñ and ç are converted correctly, and so are letters such as ß, which becomes SS in capitals.

Why did my Korean or Japanese text not change?

Hangul, kana and kanji have no capital letters, so there is nothing to convert. Any Latin words in the same text still change, which helps with mixed text.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and the text never leaves your device.

What does Remove extra spaces do?

It turns runs of spaces and tabs into a single space and trims spaces at the start and end of every line, without removing line breaks.
