Upscale an image

Make a small picture two or four times bigger with cleaner edges and textures. Choose AI for sharper detail or Standard for an instant result.

Add one or more images to enlarge (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF).

or drop files here

Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Add one or more images with "Choose files" or drop them onto the page.
  2. Under "Method", choose "AI (sharper details)" or "Standard (fast)".
  3. Under "Enlarge by", pick 2× or 4×, then choose a "Format".
  4. Click "Upscale" and follow the progress bar; you can cancel at any time.
  5. Compare before and after with the slider, then click "Download" or "Download all (ZIP)".

What it does

  • AI enlargement on your device

The AI method uses Real-ESRGAN, an open-source super-resolution model of about 2.4 MB. Together with the AI runtime, the first use downloads about 6 MB from this site.

  • Standard for instant results

High-quality Lanczos resampling with light sharpening finishes right away and needs no download.

  • Progress you can follow

The AI works through the picture in tiles and shows a progress bar, the time left and a cancel button.

  • Before and after slider

Drag the line across the picture to compare, and switch between Fit and 100% to inspect the real pixels.

  • Transparency kept

Images with transparent areas stay transparent when saved as PNG or WebP, so logos and cut-outs keep their clean outline.

  • Clear size limits

If a scale would push an image past about 16.7 megapixels, that option is disabled for it and the reason is shown. In a batch, only the images that would be too large are skipped.

Good to know

Upscaling helps when a picture is too small for its new job: an old photo you'd like to print, a low-resolution logo for a slide, or a small product shot for a web page. The AI method has learned how edges and textures usually look and redraws them more cleanly than ordinary resizing, which tends to turn soft or blocky. It takes more time, though. Large images can need several minutes on a computer and longer on a phone, while Standard finishes instantly.

Be realistic about the result: enlarging cannot add information the original never captured. Lines and surfaces look crisper, but text that is unreadable stays unreadable, a face only a few pixels wide does not gain real features, and a blurry photo does not become a sharp one. The output can have at most about 16.7 megapixels, for example 4096 × 4096 pixels. Save as PNG for the best quality, or as JPG or WebP for a smaller file; the new file ends in -2x or -4x, and camera details such as the GPS location are not copied.

Questions and answers

How do I increase the resolution of an image?

Add the image, choose "AI (sharper details)", pick 2× or 4× and click "Upscale". When it finishes, compare the result and click "Download".

Can upscaling bring back lost details?

No. It makes edges and textures look cleaner, but it cannot recover details the original photo never recorded, such as unreadable text or a blurred face.

Should I use AI or Standard?

AI gives sharper detail but takes longer and needs a one-time download of about 6 MB. Standard is instant and is a good choice when you need a quick, smooth enlargement.

Why is 4× not available for my image?

The result would be larger than about 16.7 megapixels, the most browsers can handle on every device. The page shows the size 4× would give, and 2× is still possible if that stays under the limit.

How long does AI upscaling take?

It depends on the image size and your device. Small pictures can be done in seconds, large ones can take minutes on a computer and longer on a phone; the progress bar shows the time left.

Does AI upscaling work on iPhone?

Yes, on iOS 16.4 or later, because the AI needs WebAssembly SIMD. If the AI cannot start in your browser, Standard is selected instead and you can press "Upscale" again.
