Blur faces in a photo
Hide faces, license plates and names before you post or send a picture. Faces are found on your device, and you check and adjust every area before saving.
Add one or more photos. Faces are found automatically on your device.
or drop files here
Small, turned or partly covered faces can be missed. Check the picture and add boxes by hand where needed.
A solid color hides an area completely; a strong blur or large blocks are safer than light ones. The photo is saved in its original format (HEIC, AVIF, GIF and BMP as JPG, or PNG if it has transparency). Metadata such as the location is not copied.
Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use it
- Add one or more photos with "Choose files" or drop them onto the page. Faces are found automatically.
- Check the boxes: drag on the picture to add a face that was missed, and remove wrong ones with ×.
- Use the "Brush" to paint over other details, such as a license plate or a name tag.
- Under "Effect", pick "Blur", "Pixelate" or "Solid color" and set how strong it is.
- Click "Blur and save", then "Download" or "Download all (ZIP)".
What it does
Automatic face finding
A small open-source face detection model, about 1.6 MB and downloaded once from this site, runs on your device. Large photos are also scanned in overlapping parts, which helps it spot small faces.
Boxes you control
Each face gets an oval box a little larger than the face. Drag to add rectangles or ovals, move them, resize them with the corner handles, or switch a selected box between the two shapes.
A brush for everything else
Paint freely over license plates, names on badges, house numbers or anything else that should not be seen.
Three effects
Blur with an adjustable strength, Pixelate with a block size you choose, or Solid color, black by default, which covers an area completely.
Several photos in one go
Work through the photos one by one with the list or Previous and Next while faces are found in the background. Saving processes every photo with its own areas.
The rest stays untouched
Outside the areas you mark, the picture does not change: PNG pixels stay identical, and JPG is simply saved again.
Good to know
Automatic detection saves time, but it is never perfect. Small faces, faces turned to the side and faces partly hidden by a hat, hair or a hand can be missed, and now and then something that isn't a face gets a box. Look over each photo before saving, add any missing areas, and press and hold the compare button to see the original. Undo (Ctrl+Z) and redo (Ctrl+Shift+Z) let you step through your changes, and keyboard users can add a box with "Add a box" and move or resize it with the arrow keys and Alt+arrow keys.
Choose the effect by how much needs to be hidden. A light blur or small blocks can leave a face or a number recognizable, so use a strong blur or large blocks for anything sensitive. A solid color is the safest option, because nothing of the original is left in that area. The saved photo keeps its format (HEIC, AVIF, GIF and BMP become JPG, or PNG with transparency, and SVG becomes PNG), gets -blurred added to its name and loses its location data along with other camera details.
Questions and answers
How do I blur a face in a photo?
Add the photo and wait a moment while faces are found. Check the boxes, choose "Blur" under "Effect" and click "Blur and save".
Can I pixelate a face instead of blurring it?
Yes. Choose "Pixelate" and set the "Block size" to get a mosaic effect. Larger blocks hide more detail.
Not every face was found. What should I do?
Drag on the picture to add a box by hand, or use "Add a box". Small, turned or covered faces are the ones most often missed, so always check the photo yourself.
Can I hide a license plate or a name?
Yes. Draw a rectangle over it, or use the "Brush" to paint over any shape. The chosen effect is applied to every marked area.
Are my photos sent anywhere for face detection?
No. The detection model is downloaded from this site and runs in your browser, so the photos stay on your device.
Does automatic face finding work on older iPhones?
It needs WebAssembly SIMD, which iOS 16.4 and later support. On older versions a message appears, and you can still add boxes by hand and save the result.
