What it does
Opens in Hangul
Saved as HWPX, the open format of Hancom Office Hangul, which opens in Hangul 2010 and later.
Paragraphs and headings
Broken PDF lines are joined into paragraphs and large text becomes bold headings.
Scanned pages
Pages without a text layer are read with text recognition and become editable text.
Page breaks kept
A new PDF page starts a new page in the Hangul document, which makes it easy to compare.
No upload
Official letters and personal documents are converted on your device.
Good to know
HWPX is the open document format Hancom Office Hangul has supported since version 2010 and now uses as its default save format. The older .hwp format is not an open standard, so this tool writes .hwpx. If you need .hwp, open the file in Hangul and use Save As.
The result focuses on the text. Tables become lines with spaced cells, pictures and text boxes are left out, and the font is set to Hangul's default. If you need the original formatting, ask the sender for the source HWP file.
Questions and answers
Can I convert a PDF to HWP for free?
Yes. You get a .hwpx file that Hangul opens directly and can save again as .hwp.
Why .hwpx and not .hwp?
.hwpx is Hangul's open standard format, so it can be written accurately in a browser. Hangul 2010 and later open it as is.
How do I open it without Hangul?
Hancom offers a free viewer and a web version that can open .hwpx files.
Are tables and pictures converted?
Tables come in as text lines with spaced cells, and pictures are not copied. For tables, PDF to Excel or PDF to Word keeps the cells.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes, with text recognition. Stamps and faint text can be misread, so check the document in Hangul.
