Crop an image

Drag a box over the part you want to keep, lock it to a ratio, or cut the picture into a circle or another shape. Each image in the list keeps its own crop.

Add one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more).

or drop files here

Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Add one or more images with "Choose files" or by dropping them onto the page.
  2. Pick an "Aspect ratio" and, if you like, a "Shape" such as "Circle / ellipse".
  3. Drag the box or its handles over the area to keep. With several images, select each one in the list to place its box.
  4. Click "Crop", then "Download" or "Download all (ZIP)".

What it does

  • Ratios for every use

Choose Free, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 2:3, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5 or 5:4. The X, Y, Width and Height fields follow the box, so you can also type exact pixel values.

  • Circles and other shapes

Besides rectangles and rounded rectangles with a corner radius you set, crop to a circle or ellipse, heart, star, hexagon or triangle.

  • Transparent or filled outside

Shapes are saved as PNG with a transparent outside, or as JPG filled with a background color you choose.

  • A separate crop for each photo

Ratio and shape apply to the whole batch, while the box position is set image by image. Any image you leave alone is cropped with the centered box.

  • Precise placement

Rule-of-thirds grid lines, "Centered box" and "Whole image" buttons, and keyboard control: arrow keys move the box and Alt + arrow keys change its size.

  • Trim transparent edges

For logos and cut-outs surrounded by empty transparent space, one click trims the picture down to its visible area.

Good to know

To make a round profile picture, choose "Circle / ellipse". If the ratio is on Free, it switches to 1:1 so you get a true circle, and you can set it back to Free for an oval. Save as "PNG, transparent" so the area outside the circle stays see-through, or as "JPG with background" if the place you're uploading to doesn't accept PNG. The heart, star, hexagon and triangle shapes work the same way and suit stickers, badges and invitations.

Rectangular crops keep the original file format, except GIF, BMP, HEIC and AVIF, which become JPG, or PNG when they contain transparency. With a mouse or pen you can also drag across the photo to draw a new box; on a touch screen that gesture scrolls the page, but the box itself can still be moved and resized with a finger. Cropped files get -cropped added to their name, and camera details such as GPS location are not copied. When a website asks for exact dimensions, such as 1080 × 1080 pixels, Resize image is the quicker choice.

Questions and answers

How do I crop a picture into a circle?

Choose the "Circle / ellipse" shape with the 1:1 ratio, place the box over the face or object, and save as "PNG, transparent". Everything outside the circle is then transparent.

How do I crop a photo to a square?

Pick the 1:1 aspect ratio and move the box over the part you want to keep. With several images, each one can have its square in a different place.

Can I enter exact pixel values?

Yes. Type numbers into the X, Y, Width and Height fields; they stay in sync with the box on the picture.

Can I crop several images at once?

Yes. Add them all and set the ratio and shape once. Select an image in the list to adjust its box; the ones you don't adjust are cropped from the center.

Why can't I draw a new box on my phone?

On touch screens, dragging across the photo scrolls the page instead of drawing. Move the existing box with your finger and pull its handles to resize it.

What does "Trim transparent edges" do?

It cuts away the fully transparent border around a picture, leaving only the visible part. It is handy for logos and images whose background has been removed.
