Random name picker and team generator
Paste your names, then draw one or many winners fairly, or divide the group into teams of your chosen size. It is built for classrooms, giveaways and meetings.
Already picked
How to use it
- Paste or type the names, one per line. Names separated by commas work too.
- Choose "Pick winners", set how many to draw and decide whether a name can be drawn twice.
- Click "Pick". After a short animation the winners appear in a result card.
- For groups, choose "Make teams", split by number of teams or people per team and click "Make teams".
What it does
One or many winners
Draw a single name or up to 100 at once. With "Do not pick the same name twice" on, drawn names are set aside and listed under "Already picked".
Team maker
Split the list into a set number of teams or into teams of a given size. Teams are mixed at random and differ in size by at most one person.
Commas and lines
Paste names from a spreadsheet, a chat or an email. Lines and comma-separated lists are both understood, up to 1,000 names.
Shuffle and remember
Shuffle the order of the list with one click. Your list and settings are kept on this device, so they are there next time.
Share by link
"Copy share link" puts the names inside the address itself, so the same list opens on another device without any server.
Full screen for a room
Use full screen on a projector or a video call. The result card is large and easy to read from the back of the room.
Good to know
A random draw feels fair when everyone can see how it works. Here every name in the pool has exactly the same chance, and the animation is only a show: the winners are decided first, with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, and a method that avoids bias. Listing a name twice gives it two entries, which is useful for weighted raffles.
For classrooms, turn on "Do not pick the same name twice" so every student gets a turn before anyone is repeated. For giveaways, draw first, second and third place in one go and copy the result. For project groups or sports, the team maker deals names out like cards, so the groups come out as even as possible: ten people in three teams become 4, 3 and 3.
Questions and answers
Is the draw really random?
Yes. Winners are chosen with crypto.getRandomValues, the secure generator built into your browser, using a method without bias. Every name has the same chance, and the animation does not influence the result.
Can the same name be picked twice?
Only if you allow it. With "Do not pick the same name twice" on, drawn names are removed from the next draw until you click "Start over". Turn it off if repeats are fine.
How do I split people into teams?
Choose "Make teams", then split by the number of teams or by people per team. Names are shuffled and dealt out one by one, so team sizes differ by at most one.
How many names can I add?
Up to 1,000 names, one per line or separated by commas. You can draw as many as 100 winners in one go.
Are my names uploaded?
No. The list stays in your browser and is remembered only on this device. A share link carries the names inside the link itself, not on a server.
Can I show it on a big screen?
Yes. Click "Full screen" for a large, clear display, and press Escape to leave it. On phones that do not support full screen, the page fills the screen instead.
