ID & Passport Photo Maker

Turn a phone photo into a passport, visa or ID photo for your country and document. The head is sized and placed to the rules, the background is made plain, and common reasons for rejection are checked before you print.

1. Choose the document

2. Add your photo

Add one photo of your face looking straight at the camera (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC).

How to take a photo that passes
  • Stand about 1 m in front of a plain light wall, facing a window or soft light.
  • Ask someone to take it at eye level (a selfie at arm's length distorts the face).
  • Look straight at the camera, mouth closed, both eyes open, hair off the eyes and ears.
  • No hat, no tinted glasses; keep your shoulders in the picture.
  • Use a photo taken in the last 6 months.

Your photo stays on this device. Only the AI model files (about 25 MB, once) are downloaded from this site.

Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Choose the ‘Country’ and the ‘Document and size’, such as a US passport (2×2 in) or a UK passport (35×45 mm). The size, head height and background rules appear below.
  2. Add a photo taken straight on in front of a light wall. On a phone you can use ‘Take a photo’ directly.
  3. The AI finds your face, straightens it and crops so the head height and position match the rules. Look at the ‘Checks’ list for yellow or red items.
  4. If needed, adjust head size, position, background colour and brightness under ‘Fine-tune’. The size guide shows where the top of the head and the chin must be.
  5. Use ‘Save file’ for online applications, or ‘Save print sheet’ for several photos on one 4×6 in sheet with cut lines.

What it does

  • 28 country and document sizes

US passport and visa (2×2 in, head 25–35 mm), UK passport (35×45 mm, head 29–34 mm), Australia, Japan, China, India e-Visa, Schengen, Korea and more. Official requirements and customary sizes are labelled separately.

  • Automatic size and position

The crown and chin are found and the head is set to the middle of the allowed range. Where a country sets the space above the head or the eye height, the photo follows that too. A tilted head is straightened to eye level.

  • Checks before you print

Facing the camera, eyes open, mouth closed, smile, shadows on the face, cut-off head or shoulders and low resolution are checked and shown in green, yellow or red. Documents that do not allow glasses are flagged.

  • Files for online forms

Saved as JPG with 300 dpi. Size limits are met automatically, for example 240 KB for the US visa form, 40–120 KB for China and 10–300 KB for the India e-Visa, by adjusting the JPG quality.

  • Print sheets

4×6 in (10×15 cm), 89×127 mm and A4 sheets with several copies and cut lines. Two 2×2 in photos or eight 35×45 mm photos fit on one 4×6 in sheet.

  • No face retouching for official use

For passports and ID cards only the crop, size and background change; the face is not retouched. Light skin retouching is available only for uses that allow it, such as résumé photos.

Good to know

Most rejected ID photos fail on head size, position or background. A US passport photo is 2×2 inches with the head 1 to 1 3/8 inches (25–35 mm) from chin to top of the head on a white background, and glasses are not allowed. This tool finds 478 face points and the outline of your head and crops to those numbers.

Rules differ by country. The UK wants a light grey or cream background, France does not accept white, and some countries – Germany since May 2025, France and Canada – only accept photos from photographers or approved booths. For those, the tool tells you so instead of pretending otherwise.

The issuing office always makes the final decision. The most reliable photo is taken by someone else at eye level, about a metre in front of a plain light wall, with space above your head and your shoulders in the frame; the tool then crops it to the exact size.

Questions and answers

Is this passport photo maker free?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up. Both the file and the print sheet are saved without a watermark, and there is no limit on how many you make.

Will my US passport photo be accepted?

The size, head height and eye position follow the State Department rules, and the background is made white. Expression, shadows and glasses also matter, so fix any yellow or red check first. The final decision is made by the passport agency.

How do I print a 2×2 photo?

Use ‘Save print sheet’ and print the file as a 4×6 in photo at a store or online service, or on your printer at actual size (100%, without ‘fit to page’). Then cut along the grey lines.

Can I make a digital photo for the DS-160 visa form?

Yes. Choose United States and ‘Visa’, then ‘Save file’. The photo is saved as a 1200×1200 px JPG and compressed to 240 KB or less as the form requires.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Face detection, background change, checks and saving all run in your browser on this device. Only the AI model files (about 25 MB) are downloaded once.

Can I use a photo where my face is turned?

No. Almost every country requires a front-facing photo. A turned or tilted face shows a yellow or red check; look straight at the camera and take it again.
