How to use it

- If you like, open "Alarm sound" to choose "Beep", "Chime" or "Bell", set the volume and turn on "Desktop notification".
- Click "Start", and use "Pause" and "Resume" if you need to hold the countdown.
- When the time is up, click "Stop alarm". Click "Reset" to set a new time.
What it does
Quick start
One tap starts a 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60-minute countdown right away.
Big digits and full screen
A large display and a full-screen mode keep the countdown easy to see on a laptop, tablet or classroom screen.
An alarm that keeps going
Pick a beep, chime or bell and set the volume. The sound repeats until you stop it, for up to 10 minutes.
Time left in the tab
The browser tab title shows the time remaining, and an optional desktop notification tells you when it's done.
Accurate in the background
The countdown keeps accurate time while you work in other tabs, and on browsers that support it, the screen stays awake.
Good to know
The quick times cover the usual jobs: 3 minutes for a pot of tea, 5 for a breather between tasks, 15 for a study sprint, and 30 or 60 for a practice exam or a batch of baking. For anything else, type the hours, minutes and seconds yourself, whether that's 6 minutes for soft-boiled eggs or 1 hour 20 minutes for a slow roast.
Keep the tab open while the timer runs: switching to other tabs is fine, but closing this one stops the countdown. If you'll be busy in another window, set a comfortable volume and turn on "Desktop notification" so an alert appears even when the browser isn't in front. If your browser blocks notifications, you can allow them for this site in its settings.
Questions and answers
Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. It keeps accurate time in the background, and the tab title shows the time left. Closing the tab, however, stops the timer.
How long does the alarm ring?
The sound repeats until you click "Stop alarm", for up to 10 minutes.
Can I set a timer for more than an hour?
Yes. Enter the hours, minutes and seconds you need, or use the 60-minute quick time for exactly one hour.
How do I make the timer full screen?
Click the full-screen button next to "Reset" and the countdown fills the display, which works well for classrooms, workouts and presentations.
Why didn't I hear the alarm?
Check that your device isn't muted, that the volume under "Alarm sound" isn't turned down, and that the tab stayed open. Turning on "Desktop notification" adds an on-screen alert as well.
Does the screen stay on while the timer runs?
On browsers that support it, yes: the timer keeps the screen awake while it's counting down, so the display doesn't go to sleep mid-countdown.
