PDF OCR

Turn a scanned PDF into text you can search and copy. Check each page next to its text, fix what was misread, and save.

Add one PDF, scanned or not, to read its text.

or drop a file here

Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF or drop it on the page.
  2. Tick the languages used in the document, such as English and Korean.
  3. Click "Recognize all pages", or recognize just the page you are looking at.
  4. Compare the text with the page on the left and correct any misread words.
  5. Save a searchable PDF, download a .txt file or copy all the text.

What it does

  • Page and text side by side

The page is shown on the left and its text on the right, so checking and fixing errors takes seconds.

  • Searchable PDF

Your pages stay exactly as they look; the recognized words are added as an invisible layer you can search, select and copy.

  • Text pages read instantly

Pages that already contain text are read directly without recognition. You can still run OCR on them if the text is broken.

  • Seven languages

Recognizes English, Korean, Japanese, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese, alone or mixed on one page.

  • Search and word count

Find a word across every page and see how many words and characters the document holds.

  • Stays on your device

Recognition runs inside your browser. The PDF is never uploaded to a server.

Good to know

OCR (optical character recognition) reads letters from a picture of a page. Scanned contracts, photographed receipts and old reports are just images inside a PDF, so you cannot search or copy them until the text is recognized.

Recognition is very accurate on clean scans but can misread small print, stamps or handwriting. That is why every page sits next to an editable text box: correct the text there and the corrections go into both the TXT file and the searchable PDF.

Questions and answers

How do I make a scanned PDF searchable?

Add the PDF, click "Recognize all pages" and then "Searchable PDF". The new file looks the same but you can search and copy its text.

Does it change how my pages look?

No. The original pages are kept untouched. The recognized text is placed on top as invisible text at the position of each word.

Can it read Korean or Japanese?

Yes. Tick the languages in the document before recognizing. Picking only the languages you need gives faster and better results.

Why are some words wrong?

Blurry scans, small fonts, stamps and handwriting are harder to read. Correct the text in the box next to the page; the saved files use your corrections.

How long does recognition take?

Usually a few seconds per page on a computer and longer on a phone. The first run also loads the language data once.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The file is opened and recognized in your browser and never leaves your device.
