Pomodoro timer

Alternate focused work with short breaks, using the classic 25/5 rhythm or lengths of your own.

25:00

Settings

How to use it

  1. Open "Settings" if you want to change the lengths or turn on "Start the next session automatically".
  2. Type what you're working on under "Task" (optional).
  3. Click "Start" to begin a "Focus" session, 25 minutes unless you changed it.
  4. When it ends, take the "Short break"; after every 4 focus sessions, you get a "Long break".

What it does

  • Classic defaults

25 minutes of focus, a 5-minute short break, and a 15-minute long break after every 4 focus sessions.

  • Your own rhythm

Change the focus, short break and long break lengths, and how many focus sessions come before a long break.

  • Hands-free cycling

Turn on "Start the next session automatically" to move from focus to break and back without clicking.

  • Sounds and notifications

A sound marks the end of each session, and optional desktop notifications reach you while you work in another window.

  • Today's tally

"Focus sessions today" counts the focus sessions you've completed, saved on this device.

  • Task name

Note what you're working on so it stays in front of you for the whole session.

Good to know

The Pomodoro technique breaks work into short, timed sessions with regular breaks. You pick a task, work on it until the timer ends, then step away briefly; after several rounds you take a longer rest. A fixed end point can make a daunting task easier to start, and the breaks give you a moment to stretch, drink some water or look away from the screen.

The 25/5 split is a starting point, not a rule. If 25 minutes feels too short for deep work such as writing or coding, try 45 or 50 minutes of focus with a 10-minute break; for younger students, sessions of 15 to 20 minutes may suit better. The daily count shows how many focused sessions a typical day really holds, which helps you plan the next one.

Questions and answers

What is the Pomodoro technique?

It's a time-management method where you work in focused sessions, traditionally 25 minutes long, separated by short breaks, with a longer break after every four sessions. This timer follows that pattern by default.

Can I change the session lengths?

Yes. Open "Settings" to set the focus, short break and long break lengths in minutes, as well as how many focus sessions come before a long break.

Can the next session start on its own?

Yes. Turn on "Start the next session automatically" in "Settings", and the timer moves from focus to break and back without you clicking "Start".

Where is my daily count stored?

The number of focus sessions completed today is saved in your browser on this device. It isn't sent anywhere or tied to an account.

Will I be alerted when a session ends?

A sound plays at the end of each session, and you can turn on "Desktop notification" in "Settings" for an on-screen alert as well.
