Split a PDF

Take out just the pages you need, or break a long PDF into smaller files. Page thumbnails show you exactly what you're choosing.

Add one PDF.

or drop a file here

Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Click "Choose a file" and open your PDF. Thumbnails of its pages appear.
  2. Under "How to split", pick "Select pages", "Every page" or "Every N pages".
  3. For "Select pages", click thumbnails or type a range such as 1-3, 6, 9-12. For "Every N pages", enter a number in "Pages per file".
  4. Click "Split PDF".
  5. Click "Download" for a single PDF, or "Download all (ZIP)" when the split produces several files.

What it does

  • Select pages

Click thumbnails or type ranges, and the pages you pick are saved together as one new PDF.

  • Every page

Each page becomes a separate PDF, and all of them arrive in a single ZIP file.

  • Every N pages

Cut the document into parts of a fixed length, such as 2 or 10 pages each, delivered together in one ZIP.

  • Thumbnails to check against

Page previews help you find the signature page or the start of a chapter without opening another app.

  • Private and free

The PDF is split inside your browser rather than uploaded, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Good to know

Choose the mode by what you want to end up with. "Select pages" suits pulling a signed page out of a contract or sending one chapter of a report. "Every page" is useful when each page is really its own document, such as a stack of scanned invoices. "Every N pages" fits files made of same-length blocks: a batch of two-page forms splits cleanly with 2 in "Pages per file", and if the page count doesn't divide evenly, the last file holds the pages left over.

Ranges use a hyphen for a run of pages and a comma between items, so 1-3, 6, 9-12 selects pages 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Clicking thumbnails and typing ranges are two ways of making the same selection, so use whichever is faster for your document. To reorder or delete a few pages, Organize PDF is usually quicker, and Merge PDF joins split parts back together.

Questions and answers

How do I extract a single page from a PDF?

Choose "Select pages", click the thumbnail of the page you want or type its number, then click "Split PDF" and "Download". The page is saved as a new PDF.

Can I save every page as a separate PDF?

Yes. Choose "Every page" and each page becomes its own PDF. Since that can mean a lot of files, they're delivered together in one ZIP.

How do I split a PDF into equal parts?

Use "Every N pages" and set "Pages per file" to the length you want. A 30-page document with 10 pages per file gives three PDFs; if the total doesn't divide evenly, the last part is shorter.

Can I pick pages that aren't next to each other?

Yes. Click any thumbnails you like, or type the pages separated by commas, such as 2, 5, 9-11. All the selected pages go into one new PDF.

Is my PDF uploaded when I split it?

No. Your browser opens and splits the file on your own device, so it isn't sent to a server.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Phones running a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari can split PDFs too. Very large PDFs need plenty of memory, so a computer handles them more comfortably than a phone.
