PDF Header & Footer
Put the same wording at the top and bottom of every PDF page. Document name, company, a confidential mark, page numbers and dates in one go.
Add one PDF file for the header and footer.
or drop a file here
{page} becomes the page number, {total} the page count, {date} today’s date and {file} the file name.
Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use it
- Click "Choose a file" or drop the PDF you want to add a header and footer to.
- Type text in the left, center or right boxes of the header and footer.
- Use {page}, {total}, {date} and {file} for the page number, page count, date and file name.
- Check the preview, click "Add header & footer" and download the file.
What it does
Six positions
Different text can go on the left, center and right, at both the top and the bottom.
Values that fill themselves
Page number, page count, today's date and file name are filled in for every page.
Any language
Latin text uses the standard PDF font; Korean, Japanese and other scripts are placed as sharp pictures so they always show.
Skip the cover
Leave the first page out and start counting from the second, or limit it to a page range.
No upload
Headers and footers are added inside your browser; the file never goes to a server.
Good to know
When a report or proposal is merged from several files, the same header and page numbers on every page make it read as one document. A common layout is the company or title in the header and "3 / 12" in the footer.
If you only need page numbers, Add Page Numbers is simpler. Text size and color come in three choices, and your last settings are remembered on this device for next time.
Questions and answers
Can I add a header to a PDF for free?
Yes. It is free and works without an account.
Does each page get its own number?
{page} changes on every page and {total} becomes the page count, so "{page} / {total}" gives 1 / 10, 2 / 10 and so on.
What does {date} look like?
It shows today's date in the format of the site language you are using. Type the date yourself if you need a different one.
Can I use non-Latin text?
Yes. Korean, Japanese and similar text goes in as a sharp picture, so it shows correctly but is not searchable in the PDF.
Can I remove the header later?
It becomes part of the page content, so keep a copy of the original PDF.
