Tapping a symbol copies it and adds it to the text box. Symbols are standard Unicode characters; how each one looks depends on the font of the app where you paste it.
How to use it
- Scroll through the symbol groups, or tap a group chip such as "Arrows", "Currency" or "Math" to jump straight to it.
- Tap a symbol. It is copied at once and added to the "Your text" box at the top, which stays on screen while you scroll.
- Keep tapping to build a line, then click "Copy all" to copy everything in the box.
- Paste it where you need it. The last 24 symbols you used appear under "Recently used", so your favorites are quick to find again.
What it does
17 symbol groups
Popular symbols come first, followed by hearts, stars, arrows, check marks, shapes, math, currency, units, brackets, punctuation, numbers, music and games, nature, Greek letters, box-drawing lines and kaomoji.
Copy on tap
Each tap copies the symbol and adds it to the box, so you can mix several symbols and copy them together.
A box that stays in view
"Your text" stays on screen while you scroll, so you do not have to go back to the top after each symbol.
Recently used
The last 24 symbols you used are listed under "Recently used" and kept in this browser.
Numbers, letters and faces
Circled, parenthesized and Roman numbers, Greek letters and kaomoji (text faces) sit alongside the everyday symbols.
Standard Unicode
Every symbol is a standard Unicode character, so it pastes as plain text on phones and computers.
Good to know
A typical keyboard has keys for only a handful of symbols. For a degree sign, a euro sign, an arrow or a check mark you would otherwise need a keyboard shortcut or a character map, and this page puts them a tap away. Arrows suit steps and directions, check marks and crosses suit lists, and math signs and Greek letters suit formulas. Currency signs suit prices, units suit measurements, circled and Roman numbers work in outlines, box-drawing lines make simple text tables and dividers, and kaomoji add a face to a chat.
Each symbol travels as text, so it can be pasted into a message, a document or a profile. How it looks depends on the font of the app where you paste it, so the same symbol can have a slightly different shape or weight from one app to the next. If the look matters, paste a test first, and if a symbol does not display properly, choose a similar one from the same group.
Questions and answers
How do I copy and paste a special character?
Tap the symbol and it is copied at once. Paste it with your usual paste command. To use several symbols together, tap each one and then click "Copy all" on the "Your text" box.
Why does a symbol look different after I paste it?
Symbols are standard Unicode characters, and how each one looks depends on the font of the app where you paste it. Another app can draw the same symbol a little differently.
How do I find the symbols I used before?
The last 24 symbols you used appear under "Recently used". They are kept in this browser on this device and nowhere else.
What are kaomoji?
Kaomoji are faces drawn with text characters. The "Kaomoji (text faces)" group has ready-made ones that you can tap to copy.
Which symbol groups are there?
"Popular", "Hearts", "Stars and sparkles", "Arrows", "Check marks and crosses", "Shapes", "Math", "Currency", "Units", "Brackets and quotes", "Punctuation and dashes", "Circled and Roman numbers", "Music, cards and games", "Weather and nature", "Greek letters", "Lines and boxes" and "Kaomoji (text faces)".
Is anything uploaded or saved?
Nothing is uploaded, because copying happens in your browser. Only the list of recently used symbols is kept, and it stays in this browser on this device.
