How to use it
- Set the "Number of coins" from 1 to 20. This page opens on the coin.
- Click "Flip". Each coin lands on "Heads" or "Tails", and with several coins you also see totals such as "3 heads, 2 tails".
- Watch the tally for "Coins flipped", "Heads" and "Tails", with percentages. Click "Reset counts" to start again.
- Tick "Sound" for a sound effect with each flip.
Good to know
A coin flip is the oldest way to settle a two-way choice: who goes first, what to watch, whose turn it is to do the dishes. It works because both sides are equally likely. Here each flip is decided by the browser's cryptographic random number generator, so the result cannot be predicted or steered. Call heads or tails before you flip, so nobody can say the outcome was chosen afterwards.
Flipping several coins at once is handy for probability lessons and games that call for many tosses. The tally keeps a running count of coins flipped, heads and tails, with percentages. After ten flips a split of 7 to 3 is unremarkable, while over hundreds of flips the shares usually settle closer to half and half, which makes the page a simple way to show a class how chance behaves.
Dice are one tap away: switch "Mode" to "Dice", or use the breadcrumb to open the full Dice roller.
Questions and answers
Is the online coin flip fair?
Yes. The result comes from the browser's cryptographic random number generator, so heads and tails are equally likely and nobody can predict or steer a flip.
How do I flip several coins at once?
Enter a number from 1 to 20 under "Number of coins" and click "Flip". With more than one coin, the page also shows how many landed heads and how many tails.
Does a streak of heads make tails more likely?
No. Every flip is independent, so earlier results do not change the next one, and a streak is a normal part of chance.
Can I keep a count of my flips?
Yes. The tally counts the coins flipped, the heads and the tails, with percentages. "Reset counts" sets them back to zero.
Does the coin flip work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on phones and computers, so there is nothing to install or sign up for.
