Good to know
Three minutes is a classic kitchen-counter time. Instant noodles, a lighter tea and a soft-boiled egg with a runny yolk are often timed at about this length. Packets, leaves and eggs differ, though, so let the instructions on the packaging or your own experience decide.
Outside the kitchen, three minutes fits a round of charades or a word game, a short speech, a breathing break or the rest between sets at the gym. For a game with a group, put the timer in full screen so every player can see it, and use "Test" under "Alarm sound" to check the volume before the first round. The tab has to stay open until the alarm rings.
Questions and answers
Is there a quick button for 3 minutes?
Yes. The "3 min" button under "Quick start" begins a three-minute countdown straight away. This page is already set to three minutes, so "Start" does the same job.
Can I use it for steeping tea?
Yes. Start it when the water meets the leaves and take them out when the alarm sounds. Steeping times depend on the tea, so check the packet.
How do I stop the alarm?
Click "Stop alarm" when "Time is up" appears. If you do nothing, the sound repeats for up to 10 minutes.
