- Click the full-screen button to put the countdown on a TV, a projector or a laptop for the evening.
- Click "Copy share link" to send the countdown to guests, or "Save to my list" to keep it under "My events".
Good to know
The countdown aims at the start of 1 January in your time zone, which is midnight at the end of 31 December. Every device counts with its own clock, so friends in other time zones who open your link reach zero at their own midnight, not yours.
A big, live countdown suits a New Year's Eve party, a classroom on the last day before the break or a livestream where viewers want to watch the final minutes. It also works as a deadline for a resolution, a savings target or a project that should be finished before the year changes.
To count down to a different event, use the breadcrumb to open the full D-Day Counter, where you can name an event, pick its date and keep several countdowns side by side.
Questions and answers
How long is it until New Year?
Look at the large D figure for the number of calendar days left, and at the clock under it for the exact days, hours, minutes and seconds.
Will it reach zero exactly at midnight?
It reaches zero at the start of 1 January by your device's clock. If that clock runs a few seconds fast or slow, the countdown is off by the same amount.
Can I count down to New Year in another country?
The page uses your own time zone. To follow another place, work out its midnight in your local time and enter that date and time under "Date" and "Time (optional)".
Can it count the days since 1 January instead?
Yes. Set the "Date" to a day in the past and the page counts up. Tick "Count the first day as day 1 (anniversary style)" if that first day should count as day 1.
How do I show it on a big screen?
Click the full-screen button on the countdown. It fills the display, and the Esc key takes you back to the normal page.
