Good to know

An hour is a natural length for an exam or practice test, a wash cycle, a stew left to simmer or a block of deep work with your phone out of reach. A dough left to rise or a marinade often takes about this long too, and so does a tutoring session or a webinar. The display counts hours, minutes and seconds, and the tab title carries the time left.

Because an hour is a long time to keep a page open, set things up before you start. Pick a sound under "Alarm sound", test it, and turn on "Desktop notification" if you will be working in other windows. Closing or reloading the tab ends the countdown, so some people keep the timer in a browser window of its own.

Questions and answers

Is there a button for one hour?

Yes. "60 min" under "Quick start" begins a one-hour countdown immediately, and this page is already set to 1 hour if you prefer to click "Start" yourself.

How do I time an hour and a half?

Type 1 in "Hours" and 30 in "Minutes" before you click "Start". The boxes accept any mix of hours, minutes and seconds.

What happens if I close the tab by accident?

The timer stops, and a reopened page starts again from the set length. A separate browser window makes an accidental close less likely.
