How to use it

  1. Choose the "Country" and, for the UK, the "Region". This page opens on the "Working days" tab.
  2. To count a period, set "From" and "To (included)". You get "Working days", "Calendar days", "Weekend days" and "Holidays on working days", with the holidays named.
  3. To find a deadline, enter a "Start date" and a number of "Working days". The start date itself is not counted, and a negative number counts backwards.
  4. Check the table of working days per month and click "Copy table" to take it with you. Under "Options" you can count optional and local holidays as days off or treat Saturday as a working day.

Good to know

A working day here is any day that is not a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday of the country or region you chose. Between two dates, the first and the last day are both included. When you add or subtract working days, the start date is not counted, so one working day after a Friday is the following Monday unless that Monday is a holiday.

Holidays change the answer. In 2027, ten working days after Monday 20 December land on Wednesday 5 January 2028 with US federal holidays, because Friday 24 December and Friday 31 December 2027 are observed days off. With England and Wales bank holidays the answer is Thursday 6 January 2028, because Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December 2027 and Monday 3 January 2028 are substitute days.

Deadlines, delivery times, notice periods and invoice terms are often written in business days, and contracts differ on what counts, so check how yours defines the term. This tool skips weekends and public holidays only: company holidays, school holidays and US state holidays are not included. In the US, private employers are not required to give federal holidays, so a day the tool skips may be a normal working day at your company. The full Public holidays tool, with the holiday list and the leave planner, is one click away in the breadcrumb.

Questions and answers

How do I count business days between two dates?

Under "Working days between two dates", enter "From" and "To (included)". "Working days" gives the answer, and "Calendar days", "Weekend days" and "Holidays on working days" show how the rest of the period is made up.

How do I find the date 10 working days from today?

Put today's date in "Start date" and 10 in "Working days". The result shows the date that falls 10 working days after the start, and the start date itself is not counted.

Can I count working days backwards?

Yes. Enter a negative number, for example -5, to get the date five working days before the start date.

Which holidays are skipped?

The public holidays of the country you chose, and for the UK of the region you chose. Optional days such as Christmas Eve are skipped only if you tick "Count optional and local holidays as days off" under "Options".

Can I count Saturday as a working day?

Yes. Open "Options" and tick "Saturday is a working day". Saturdays then count as working days in every calculation on the page, including the monthly table.
